Movie night last night, “Baby Driver,” then Yayoi and I took the last watch, eight to midnight. Full sails all night making nine to eleven knots just aft of the beam with medium following seas, perfect sailing weather. No clouds, full moon, a blanket of stars overhead. Polaris and the Southern Cross were both over the horizon. I took 8 star sights and a couple moon sights within 20 minutes, all the data required to test my watch for any errors from Greenwich.
01:00 bed time, relieved by Chris.
08:00 up for coffee, hundreds of dolphins surrounding us, showing off their spinning skills. Thirty minutes later, not to be outdone by those dolphins, a seven or eight foot shark jumped ten feet high off the starboard quarter! Amazing leap! And then a few minutes after that, a ray jumped clear of the water, flopping it’s body inelegantly before splashing back in the water off the port beam. Two more Mahi Mahi on the line! We returned the baby and kept the medium sized for dinner. What a day for wildlife!
