Lentil Curry Recipe


  1. Ingredients for 2 people:
    1. 2 Cups rice
    2. 1 Cup red lentils
    3. 1 large onion
    4. 1 clove garlic
    5. 2 Tablespoons butter
    6. 1 Tablespoon flour
    7. 1 Tablespoon curry powder
    8. 1/2 Cup raisins
    9. Salt
    10. Pepper
    11. Chutney
  2. A lentil looks something like a flattened pea. It is close to a small bean in size but easier to cook.
  3. Wash and soak 1 cup lentils for 2 hours in fresh water.
  4. Put the lentils in 2 cups lightly salted water and simmer for 20 minutes. Save the lentil water.
  5. Chop up a large onion and a clove of garlic and sauté them in 2 tablespoons butter or margarine in a frying pan until translucent. Then add 1 tablespoon flour and 1 tablespoon curry powder. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. While stirring, gradually add 1 cup of the reserved lentil water from step 1. Simmer for 15 minutes or until the curry is thick.
  7. Add the lentils and ½ cup raisins to the sauce, simmer for 10 minutes, and serve with rice and a few spoonfuls from a bottle of chutney.
