A new country every day! Entered Nicaraguan waters today in sunny, hot conditions, solent and double-reefed main close reaching into 25 knots.
Yesterday we hooked a marlin with our 250 test Mahi lure which he immediately popped. The hook must have stayed in his mouth, because he was jumping and splashing like crazy for a bit. Hopefully that hook rusts out quickly for the poor fella. Put out another lure and watched a fin slice through the water just behind it. Gary started reeling in slowly as the fish chased it, but never bit. I guess fish CAN learn.
Shifty winds over night, five knots to 25 knots, shifting sails quite often making plenty of noise for those sleeping. Today is better, bigger waves, but good speed making ten to eleven knots. Just passed Tamarindo, Costa Rica this morning. Wind is picking up.
