The steering works! So smoooooooth. We still have to lube the port side at some point, but it’s working well now. Took a swim to wash the sweat off, the took the dinghy out for a cruise. We slipped through the very shallow area between our island and another and crossed all the way behind Isla Bayonetta to Isla Ampan. Beach combing, trash at the high water mark, plastic everywhere. No humans, but plenty of indication that humans have taken over the world. Again, messed with the huge hermit crabs. We didn’t stay too long, but it was fun to eplore. The dinghy ran reliably, thank God. It would have been a looooong day if the engine died halfway across.
Back at our anchorage, Chris and Dave readied some wood on the beach for a bonfire after dark while Yayoi made dinner. Panko/macadamia Corvina with asperagus and ceviche/salad on the side. Huge success.
Patty and Cheryl drank on the boat while the rest of us dinghied to shore for the bonfire. We could hear the two girls giggling on the boat over the water. The driftwood was so dry it would almost light spontaneously. Cigars, Dark and Stormies and Guiness watching the fire burn straight up in now wind. The north star was jsut out of sight below the tree line, but the southern cross was standing high and bright. Such and amazing moment in our trip!
Happy birthday Yayoi! Woke up this morning at 9am, no boats in sight, another hot, sunny day with light wind. HOpefully we can sail today on our way to Isla Contadora to drop Patty and Gary off at the ferry terminal. They have to grab the ferry back to Panama City to catch a flight back to work. We’ll miss you guys! Ok, time to help stow the SUPs, batten the hatches and secure our home for the 5 or 6 day voyage north.
